Fix Your Pair of Reading Glasses, Reading Sunglasses and Other Eyeglasses
60
Those of us who wear eyeglasses know that occasional damages to them are common. However, running to the optometrist to get them fixed can be irritating. Therefore, having a home repair kit for your eyeglasses is the best way to go.
Tightening Loose Screws
Check for loose screws on the hinges, frames and nose pads. If any of them are loose or broken use a screw driver from the kit to remove the damaged one and place a new one carefully and screw it in till it is difficult to turn it.
Repairing Nose Pads
If the nose supports have come off or torn (in case they are made of rubber) take them off completely and fit a new one in line with the bracket of the frame. If your pair of eyeglasses requires a specific design of these nose pads, get them from the shop where you bought your spectacles from.
Damaged Lens Frame
Sometimes the frame can be cracked or broken from prolonged use or accidental fall. You should remove the part that is damaged if it is detachable (such as the ear piece) and replace it with a new one by screwing it in place.
Repairing Hinges
Sometimes the hinges may not be broken completely. But using the same pair of eyeglasses for a long time can loosen or bend them from the side. You should use a pair of pliers to bend them back in place.
Here are few tips that will improve the result of your repair to your eyeglass:
• Dab a little nail polish on the new screw that you have just fit to your eyeglass and let it dry completely before using it. This will keep the screws in place for a longer time.
• You can re attach the metal hinge of your spectacles by using strong industrial adhesive, applying it carefully on the broken part with a toothpick.
• If the damage is such that you cannot repair your eyeglasses on your own, then you should take the pair to an optometrist. However, a decent repair kit can help you mend small damages to your eyeglasses easily.
